If you have ever traveled to Northwestern N.C., or are fortunate enough to live here, you know by now that each town has it’s own personal charm.
The mountains of Alleghany County have some of the best trout fishing, and Chatham Game Lands are just up the road.
Surry County offers visitors the Yadkin Valley trails, which includes hiking, biking, and recreation at it’s best. There is also a Mountain to the Sea Trail that starts at the sea and winds through several of the counties. Surry County boasts vineyards with wine tasting, and Mount Airy celebrates “Mayberry” annually, the fictional town on The Andy Griffith Show.
It used to be said that Wilkes county was the moonshine capital of the world. I bet you can find people in Wilkes that claim it still is! Wilkes also boasts incredible views winding through the Blue Ridge Parkway, great vineyards (with more of that wine tasting), and is the birthplace of Nascar.
Yadkin county is rich in history and the Yadkin Valley has many wonderful historical sites from the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. Wineries can be enjoyed there as well. Did I mention pretty countryside and friendly people?
I should also mention Stokes, Ashe, and Iredell counties and their charms. Maybe you can tell me what you enjoyed most about them? Come on over and look at our small, (and not so small) towns and see which one you can’t live without.
